Ventura, California, is the county seat of Ventura County. More formally known as the City of San Buenaventura, it located on the Pacific Coast northwest of Los Angeles and between Malibu and Santa Barbara. The city covers 32.1 square miles and features 10.4 square miles of water. It has a population of approximately 107,000. The area is known for its fantastic surf conditions and Mediterranean climate, although the city can be affected by the Santa Ana winds causing periodic temperature increases.

The main freeway running through Ventura is the Ventura Freeway, US Route 101, which connects to San Francisco in the north and Los Angeles in the south. SR 33 connects to Ojai, SR 126 connects to Santa Clarita and SR 118 connects to Simi Valley.
Metrolink provides commuter rail service on the Ventura County Line. Amtrak provides service via the Pacific Surfliner from San Luis Obispo to San Diego. Local bus service is operated by Gold Coast Tranist and Ventura Intercity Transit Authority.
